Solving the coral species delimitation conundrum using Acropora corals as a study case

We compared three lines of evidence —morphology, breeding trials, and molecular approaches— to improve confidence in species boundaries among corals from the genus Acropora and challenge the widespread assumption that incongruence between morphology and molecular approaches in these corals is due to rampant hybridization.

Evaluating novel 3D morphometric approaches to support coral species delimitation

Quantifying morphological traits and delineating phenotypically distinct groups remains challenging in complex-shaped organisms lacking distinctive features. In this study, we harnessed the potential of 3D-morphological analyses to assess their applicability in delineating morphogroups among specimens of complex-shaped and taxonomically intricate organisms such as corals.
